The Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home is the successor to Walter Rothery, who founded the firm in 1922, and was active until his death in 1953. In 1954 John D. Murphy moved his family to Oneonta and carried on the traditions of Mr. Rothery until 1970 at which time he passed away. In 1970 Lester and Sharon Grummons purchased the funeral home from Mr. Murphy’s widow. During the past 40 years, Mr. Grummons has continually improved and upgraded the facilities, as well as creating and maintaining an award-winning landscape of summer flowers and shrubs. He is still active with the business and serves on several local boards, and maintains active memberships in various service clubs.
